Role Overview

Volunteers are a key part of the ward team and provide general, non-clinical support to patients. Being a Percy Pal is about proactively engaging and interacting with patients, The patients requiring a Percy Pal would be identified by the ward nurses, and introduced to the Percy Pal. All volunteers will have safeguarding training and dementia training. All Percy Pals will need to be DBS approved.

Main Tasks
  • Proactively befriending patients
  • Encouraging patients to open up and talk about interests, hobbies etc.
  • Making patients drinks and encourage the intake of fluids
  • Promoting activities that help relieve boredom
  • Spotting simple ways to make patients more comfortable, e.g. getting an extra blanket if someone is cold
